During an interview at IGN Fan Fest, Executive Producer and Co-Creator Scott Gimbal, along with some cast members, shed some light on what viewers can expect from the conclusion of the show. When asked about how the series would end and if it would offer a conclusion to the story it was telling, Gimbal replied, ‘Well, I mean more possibilities, more questions. I think it’s a very satisfying completion of a story. But I think, you know, when shows end, I do hope that audiences’ imaginations are always sort of engaged and like, ‘Okay, well, what could happen next?’ And, sure, you can do that with this show, but I think there’s also an incredibly satisfying ending to a very long story.’

Gimbal’s response is not surprising, considering the success of The Walking Dead franchise and its numerous spinoffs. While the original series concluded after 11 seasons in 2022, there have been several spinoffs, including The Walking Dead: Dead City and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, both of which premiered last year and have been renewed for a second season.

Premiere Date and Early Reviews

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, the spinoff focusing on Rick and Michonne, is set to premiere on February 25, 2024. IGN’s review of the first four episodes of the show praised it for delivering an appropriately reverent Rick and Michonne love story and making the villains interesting in the process.

Fans can now look forward to a satisfying conclusion to the story of Rick and Michonne, while also being left with the anticipation of what could come next in the ever-expanding world of The Walking Dead.
