Trachtenberg’s Prey is the fifth film in the Predator series and serves as a prequel to the previous four movies, providing an origin story for the extraterrestrial hunters. Departing from the male-dominated nature of the franchise, Prey introduces an indigenous female lead, portrayed by Amber Midthunder, who takes on the alien adversaries.
The film received positive reviews and achieved a streaming record on Hulu, becoming their most-watched debut to date. Its success has undoubtedly paved the way for Trachtenberg’s involvement in the upcoming Badlands project.
The Predator Franchise: A Brief Overview
The first Predator movie was released in 1987 and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jesse Ventura, and the late Carl Weathers as a group of commandos being hunted by the eponymous creature in the jungle. Predator 2 followed in 1990, with Predators and The Predator hitting theaters in 2010 and 2018, respectively.
Continuing the Prey Storyline
Trachtenberg has previously hinted at a continuation of the Prey storyline, expressing his appreciation for creating a standalone film rather than a mere setup for future installments. He also highlighted the unique animated end-title sequence that provides further storytelling, rather than a typical post-credit scene.
