Black Mirror has gained a dedicated fanbase for its thought-provoking and dark portrayals of a dystopian future. Each episode is a standalone story, but the return to a storyline with a sequel to USS Callister brings new territory for the show to explore.

USS Callister, which aired in Season 4, introduced viewers to a world reminiscent of Star Trek, with notable cast members such as Jesse Plemons, Cristin Milioti, and Jimmi Simpson. The official description for the episode reads, “Capt. Robert Daly presides over his crew with wisdom and courage. But a new recruit will soon discover nothing on this spaceship is what it seems.”

For those who have seen USS Callister, it is known that Captain Robert Daly meets a tragic fate by the end of the story. Netflix hints at this in a teaser description for the sequel, stating, “Robert Daly is dead, but for the crew of the USS Callister, their problems are just beginning.”

While the USS Callister sequel will bring back familiar characters and storylines, the other five episodes in Season 7 will feature all-new stories, maintaining the show’s usual anthological structure.

Black Mirror Season 6, which was released last year after a long break, received mixed reviews. IGN gave it a 6/10 rating, stating that while it expanded beyond dystopian science fiction, only two out of the five episodes stood out.

Fans of Black Mirror can look forward to the return of the series in 2025, with the anticipation of more thought-provoking and unsettling stories that explore the dark side of technology and society.
