In her statement, Carano claimed that her words were consistently twisted to portray her as an alt-right wing extremist. She described it as a bullying smear campaign aimed at silencing and destroying her. Carano also alleged that her male co-stars were allowed to express their opinions without facing harassment or termination, while she was not afforded the same freedom of speech.

The lawsuit alleges that Disney required Carano to meet with representatives from the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Discrimination (GLAAD) and demanded a public apology, which she refused. Carano claims that Disney engaged in a post-termination smear campaign against her.

Elon Musk Supports Gina Carano’s Lawsuit Against Disney

Carano, a former MMA fighter, stated on Twitter that Elon Musk is funding the lawsuit. She referenced Musk’s previous commitment to supporting legal action for Twitter users who faced workplace discrimination due to their social media activity. Carano’s statement on Twitter read, “Today is an important day for me–I am filing a lawsuit against @lucasfilm & @Disney After my 20 years of building a career from scratch, and during the regime of former Disney CEO Bob Chapek, Lucasfilm made this statement on Twitter, terminating me from The Mandalorian: ‘Gina…'”

Elon Musk quoted Carano’s post, offering support and inviting others to join the lawsuit against Disney.

Controversial Social Media Posts Lead to Gina Carano’s Firing

Carano was fired by Lucasfilm, a Disney-owned company, in 2021 following a series of controversial social media posts. One of her posts compared being a Republican in the modern day to being Jewish during the Holocaust, drawing significant backlash. She also faced criticism for suggesting the 2020 U.S. presidential election was stolen and for mocking the practice of adding pronouns in social media bios.

Gina Carano Seeks Compensation and Reinstatement

In the lawsuit, Carano seeks several remedies, including being rehired to play Cara Dune without any loss of pay or benefits. She also seeks compensatory damages for back pay she missed out on due to her firing and compensation for future employment, including her promised role in the series Rangers of the New Republic. Carano portrayed Cara Dune for two seasons on The Mandalorian before being fired.

It was previously reported that Carano’s character was intended to be a lead character in Rangers of the New Republic, but those plans were scrapped after her termination. Disney has not yet responded to requests for comment on the lawsuit.
